Teaching and Technology Technology is ever changing the ways in which we learn. There are many different technologies, but the biggest, and most recent is the very influential computer. Both in and out of the classroom computers impact the education of people around the world. In the beginning of the computer age, there were simple computers (very simple compared to now). The first computers were so big that one of them was the size of an entire room. As technology advanced, the computer became smaller and more popular. The smaller computers became part of everyday life. That is how the personal computer (PC) evolved, and spread thoughout the world. However, it was not until 1973 that a transatlantic connection was set up with England and Norway to communicate across the world. Eventually others, such as governmental organizations, commercial organizations, and educational organizations connected their own local networks to form what we know as the Internet. The Internet, today, is a technological advancement that schools and educators are just beginning to utilize. The good news is that the Internet is bringing us closer than we ever thought possible to make learning- of all kinds, at all levels, any time, any place, any pace- a practical reality for every man, woman, and child. To aid in the spread of the use of computer technology in education in 1996 Clinton issued a challenge. He wanted to achieve national educational technology goals, which made technology in the classroom a priority in public schools. There are several other organizations that also support technology in the classroom. The CEO Forum on Education and Technology has supported an issue much the same as Clinton’s.
